Great start for Team Calvo in Motorland Aragón

Maverick Viñales was the second fastest rider on the first day of free practice sessions at the Aragón GP.

The Team Calvo rider was fastest in the morning session and in the afternoon he narrowly missed out on the quickest time by only one tenth of a second. Despite it being only the first day, various riders already broke last year’s circuit record.
But as usual the most important thing is that the rider from Roses has worked to the maximum together with his team to get the bike ready for Sunday. The temperatures are very high in Alcañiz and the race will take its toll on the tyres.

Maverick’s team mate Ana Carrasco had the best ever start to a race weekend and achieved a great 19th position with only 1.9 seconds behind the fastest rider. Ana knows this circuit well and the experience she has been gaining throughout the season really shows at this GP.

Today she’ll try to get a qualifying position somewhere between places 15 and 20 on the starting grid to give herself the best chance to score points on Sunday.

This is a circuit that is really tough on the tyres, and with the heat even more so. Therefore we’re working hard to find a setting that allows us to still push to the max in the last laps. We’ve not quite found it yet but we have two more sessions left to have everything ready for the race. In each session I feel better and we were able to go a lot faster than last year. Racing in front of a home crowd is a great motivation, but the 3 title contenders are all Spanish so this isn’t really an advantage.

#22 Ana Carrasco – 19th place – 2.01.781 / @AnaCarrasco_22
I’m happy because we were riding quite fast and had a very good rhythm. This morning was a little difficult because the bike setup wasn’t quite right yet. In the afternoon I did the whole session on the hard tyre and that worked really well. Tomorrow when we put the slicks in, we should be able to drop the times considerably. The fact that I know the circuit is definitely noticeable. On Saturday we have to achieve a good grid position for Sunday.

For the first day it went quite alright. Maverick is working in a very good manner and him and the team are preparing everything for the race. Tomorrow it’ll be very important to secure a place amongst the first 3 on the starting grid, but in general it’s been a positive day. Ana has had the best two practice session of the whole year. She knows the circuit well and this is very important for her to find a good rhythm on her own. On Saturday she might try to get a little tow from someone to secure a good starting position.
