Maverick Viñales takes valuable second place at Aragon

Maverick Viñales achieved a very valuable second place in today’s race in Aragón. He practically had his hands on the win already but a little fault in his KTM stopped him from being victorious in his final attack on Rins.

But most importantly, the Team Calvo rider was able to further shorten the points difference to the current championship leader Salom. With four races to go, the first three riders are within a 12 points range, everything is still possible.

Ana Carrasco also displayed a great performance. Yesterday she achieved her best qualifying position to date and the dream to collect her first points was within touching distance. In today’s race the brave Team Calvo rider gave her everything to make the dream reality, but in the last lap she touched with another rider and lost many positions.

The important thing is that Ana showed that she can do it, and she’s got 4 more opportunities this season to make it happen.

It was clear that I could overtake him on the straight, but there was a little problem with the gear change. It’s no excuse, we gave everything we could to win this one but a second place is a great result and it was a great race. We worked very hard all weekend and always with a smile. The most important thing is that there is only a 12 point difference to the leader and the next race will be at a circuit that could turn things in our favour because I really like it. We’ve had a good weekend and that’s important.

I’m happy with how the weekend went but not with the race result. I had the best start ever and practically had my hands on my first championship points. I was with a group of many riders and we battled until the very end. I knew exactly where I wanted to attack in the final lap, but I got pushed off the line and there was nothing I could do. But I have four more races and I will not give up. I know I can do this and I will fight for it with everything I’ve got. I’d like to thank the team for all their hard work and the fans for all their support.

It’s important that we achieved another podium but it’s a shame that there was a problem changing gears in the last lap because Maverick was very strong today. The positive thing is that we shortened the gap to Salom, there are four more races to go and all three riders have the same chance to win the title. Ana had a great race and fought very hard as usual. She battled until the very end to get some points and finished much closer to the leading group. Things could have gone better but overall it’s been a good weekend.
