Ricky Cardus will begin the Moto2 British Grand Prix from the middle of the 7th row of the grid after snatching 20th in the typically super competitive intermediate class.

The Spanish rider worked hard with his Tech3 Racing Team in both sessions today, after expertly guiding his Moto2 bike to a 11th in the combined standings on the opening day in Northampton.

Together with the team he continued his efforts to make refinements to the exclusively designed and built Mistral 610 for the nature of the fast, 5900 meter Silverstone circuit.

As the chequered flag marked the close of the session, Cardus finished with a best time of 2’08.676, only half a second away from 10th place.

The Spanish rider will intend to undertake a strong start in the 12th Moto2 race of the season and battle on to clinch a points scoring position by the end of the 18 lap sprint.

“It goes without saying that 20th position is not where I wanted to start my race from, but when having a look at the timesheets I don’t need to be too disappointed. Moreover I know that our rhythm for the race is stronger than what my performance from today shows plus I made several mistakes during my fast laps so the position could have been higher because just a few tenths would have moved me up a couple of rows on the starting grid. I’m still optimistic for tomorrow as I know that I can start well and fight with the riders in front of me, plus to collect some points would be the perfect way to thank the team for the job they have done this weekend.”
