Brilliant #CatalanGP win for Sergio Garcia, DNF for Izan Guevara

 In Moto3, News

Yesterday Sergio García Dols explained that he was happy with the feelings on the bike. The grid position was deceiving, a nineteenth place, at first glance it seemed that it did not correspond to those good feelings. But the Solunion GASGAS Aspar Team rider had it clear, and in the race, he has shown it. García has started strongly, without thinking about anything other than coming back, fighting with the front riders, with the group to which he belongs on his own merits.

Twelfth in the first lap, ninth in the second, fifth in the third and second in the fourth … the comeback was unstoppable and he only (“only”) had 18 more rivals in the group. But he has prevailed over all of them, and despite going through the finish line in eighth position at the start of the last lap, he finished the race with a victory, the second of the year, which established him as one of the main rivals for the title. García leaves Catalonia second in the World Championship standings, 39 points off the leader.

His teammate Izan Guevara has had a great race until the last lap. He has come to lead the race on several occasions on his first visit to the Barcelona circuit as a World Championship rider, and from the first moment he has found himself comfortable on the GASGAS and has shown it in the race. Guevara was fighting for the win on the last lap, when he suffered a fall that prevented him from finishing. On the other hand, Aspar Team Junior rider Dani Holgado, who was racing in Barcelona as a substitute for an injured CIP team rider, finished fifteenth and scored one point.

WINNER Sergio García Dols:
“It was a crazy race because at the end of the straight there was like six or seven riders together and it was hard to stay ahead. I fought well, I had the goal of winning and I came back a lot in the first laps. I’m very happy with this second win. This victory goes to Jason Dupasquier.”

Izan Guevara (DNF):
“It has been a very good weekend for me. The team has worked very well, in all the sessions we have been in front, always in the top five, except in the third free practice, when we went out on track with the used tyre. The crash was a shame, I was ahead and I have come to lead the group. I am happy despite everything. I really enjoyed it, but now it’s time to think about Sachsenring and do it just as well as here.”
