Sergio García Dols gave a lesson at the Styrian Grand Prix when, despite a crash with two corners remaining, he got back on his bike to score 20 points and finish second. The Santander Consumer Bank GASGAS Aspar Team rider led 21 of the 23 laps of the race, with Pedro Acosta constantly behind his wheel, but was unable to defend the first position until the end due to a crash in the ninth corner of the circuit. The Spanish rider started from second position on the grid on a day in which the rain made the teams doubt whether to mount wet or dry tyres.

The correct bet has been that of the wet tyres, despite the fact that during the race it has not rained, and this bet has allowed García and Acosta to stand out from the rest of the group until they achieved an advantage of almost 15 seconds. Thousandths separated the two riders, but they could not fight for the victory over the finish line. With these results, Pedro Acosta has 53 points of advantage over Sergio García, second in the championship.

Izan Guevara has suffered with the conditions of the track to be able to add two points, finishing fourteenth. The Santander Consumer Bank GASGAS Aspar Team rider started from fifth position and could have aspired to more if the race had the conditions of the last two days. However, the rain that has made its appearance in the morning and has spoiled his plans. Despite everything, Guevara has fought from start to finish to continue improving his sensations on the wet.

2nd Sergio García Dols (+14,431):
“This second position is a good result for the championship, it smells good after the crash. It was a shame, but that’s the way racing is. It was difficult to know where it was dry and where it wasn’t, and on the penultimate corner I hit the wet area and fell. I got up right away because I knew there was little left to finish and I had a good advantage. I haven’t even thought about it, I wanted to go through the finish line.”

14th Izan Guevara (+37.514):
“It has been a difficult race for me, it has always been difficult for me in the wet. From the beginning to the middle of the race, in the braking, I felt a lot of engine braking and I couldn’t get the bike into the corner properly. In the end I did start to ride faster and I was able to catch up with the group in front. We add two points and we will continue working.”
